Fabric Painting Process

I started fabric painting when I was looking for a way to combine my love of painting, sewing, thrifting and creating usable art.

The Materials

Fabric

The bulk of my fabric painting is on white linen of various weights. I prewash so you won't be surprised by fading or shrinkage.

I also love to find used fabrics! I tend to look for gently used natural fibers because that's what I like to have in my life.

Dye/ Paint

I mainly use procion mx fiber reactive dyes and jacquard fabric paint with paint brushes, rollers, and hand made stamps, depending on the piece.

I like working with these materials because they are simple and don't use a lot of water or chemicals. Other dye processes I have looked into require much more processing, water, and chemicals. *I am no expert in dying, however.

Care

Unless otherwise noted, my pieces have been pre washed and should hold up to repeated washing. No surprises, no fuss.

That being said, just as with all fabrics, hand washing and line drying will make your pieces last longer.
